Sony CDU-31a CD-ROM drive not detected due to non-standard I/O address.
Cause:
When a Sony CDU-31a CD-ROM drive is attached to a Media Vision Fusion 16 sound card, the Sony CDU-31a CD-ROM drive is accessed using a non-standard I/O address. Windows 95 does not detect hardware that is located at a non-standard I/O address.
Solution:
In the 'Control Panel' window, double-click the 'Add New Hardware' icon and follow the instructions to set up the Sony CDU-31a CD-ROM drive for use in Windows 95.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)
3) Double-click the 'Add New Hardware' icon. (The 'Add New Hardware Wizard' dialog box appears.)

4) Use the 'Add New Hardware Wizard' to add the Sony hardware driver:
a) Click 'Next'.
b) Select the 'No' radio button and click 'Next'.

c) Select 'CD-ROM Controllers' in the 'Hardware types' list box and click 'Next'.
d) In the 'Manufacturers' list box, select 'Sony Corp.' and click 'Next'.
e) Click 'Next'.
NOTE: If a message appears prompting for Windows 95 CD, insert the Windows 95 CD into the CD-ROM drive, and click 'OK'. This message will appear if the Sony driver was not copied into the computer during the Windows 95 installation.
f) Click 'Finish'.

NOTE: When prompted to restart the computer, click 'No'.
5) Configure the Sony driver:
a) Double-click the 'System' icon in the 'Control Panel' window. (The 'System Properties' dialog box appears.)

b) Click the 'Device Manager' tab. (The 'Device Manager' tabbed page appears.)
c) Select the 'Computer' icon. (The 'Computer' icon is highlighted.)
d) Click 'Properties'. (The 'Computer Properties' dialog box appears.)
e) If necessary, select the 'Interrupt request (IRQ)' radio button.

f) Determine which interrupt settings are not assigned by noting which numbers are missing from the list of settings.
g) Click 'OK' to close the 'Computer Properties' dialog box.
h) Double-click the 'CD-ROM' icon. (The branch expands, showing all devices.)
i) Select 'Sony Proprietary Controllers' and click 'Properties'. (The 'Sony Proprietary CD-ROM Controllers Properties' dialog box appears.)
j) Click the 'Resources' tab. (The 'Resources' tabbed page appears.)
k) Clear the 'Use automatic settings' check box. (The check mark disappears.)
l) In the 'Setting based on' drop-down list, select 'Basic configuration 0000'.
m) In the 'Resource settings' list box, select 'Interrupt Request' and click 'Change Setting...'. (The 'Edit Interrupt Request' dialog box appears.)
NOTE: If the 'No Modifications Allowed' dialog box appears, the setting cannot be changed. Click 'OK' and proceed to step 6).
n) Type an UNUSED interrupt number in the 'Value' box.
NOTE: When this value is entered, the 'Unknown Device' value should appear in the 'Conflict information' list box. If not, repeat steps 5)c) to 5)f).
o) Click 'OK' to close the 'Edit Interrupt Request' dialog box.
p) Select 'Input/Output Range' from the 'Resource settings' list box and click 'Change Setting...'. (The 'Edit Input/Output Range' dialog box appears.)
NOTE: If the 'No Modifications Allowed' dialog box appears, the setting cannot be changed. Click 'OK' and proceed to step 6).
q) Type the following in the 'Value' box:

r) Click 'OK' to close the 'Edit Input/Output Range' dialog box.
6) Click 'OK' to close the 'System Properties' dialog box. (The 'System Settings Change' dialog box appears.)
7) Click 'Yes' to restart the computer.
